January’s Sentinel

January’s Sentinel

In the dim light of a January morning, a Second World War bunker can be seen near a level crossing in East Anglia. Its bleak features and spartan form mirroring the coldness of the day.

Cold stones by rail side

Lonely silent sentinel

Still standing its watch

  1. Yes! I’ve always thought of those pillboxes as the epitome of winter and wondered what it might be that they are still watching for! I’ve seen quite a few around North Norfolk (I know one at Waxham, one at Happisburgh and there is one on the road somewhere near here) – where did you see the one in the image?
