Before The Light Fades

Image result for cyrano de bergerac movie

When we are young

It seems ever the dawn of day

What is in our hearts

We feel all eternity is left to say

When in our prime

In the noontime of our way

Ahead is still more time

So we joke rather than feelings convey

As we come to the edge of night

Let us our “Roxanne loves” finally declare

Like Cyrano in the fading light

Our true feelings lay bare

Today’s prompt: Use the phrase “fading light” in a poem or piece of prose.

  1. You had me at /in the noontime of our way/, and I love calling our winter years /the edge of night/. Sage advice, indeed. By the by, I appeared in a production of CYRANO, and I absolutely adore the poetic dialogue. In movies, Jose Ferrer won an Oscar, but I preferred the French version with Gerard Depardieu.
