The spider sat patiently in ravenous anticipation of her prey. It was early in the season, and thus far, the unwary visitors to her abode had been pitifully few. She had been able to devour a couple on small crickets, but then there was the stroppy scorpion that put up a tremendous fight and made its escape. Things soon went from bad to worse, when that careless field mouse discourteously shuffled through her carefully prepared trap, causing her an inordinate amount of time for repairs. But now she watched as a tasty looking ladybird neared her lair.
Suddenly, without warning, a wasp dropped onto her, its ambush complete.
