My World

Class, Classroom, Tables, Chairs, Empty

This isn’t my world

The world that I know

All dressed up (sort of)

And no place to go

I sit before a screen

Instead of a class

No face-to-face contact

Except through glass

This isn’t my world

The world that I know

All dressed up (sort of)

And no place to go

Tins and dried pasta

Are now my cuisine

Or I use different ingredients

Than the recipe magazine

This isn’t my world

The world that I know

All dressed up (sort of)

And no place to go

  1. I retired from teaching six years ago, but am still an examiner and moderator, and I can’t begin to imagine how teachers and pupils must be feeling, not knowing when schools will open again or what the future holds.I smiled at ‘All dressed up (sort of) / And no place to go’ – the repetition works well. I wear pyjama bottoms and a sweater and sit at my computer until lunchtime and we’re not the only ones!

  2. Not Nostrodamus nor Casey nor Billy Graham could have seen this whole planet shut down, and yet here we are wrestling with a blood thirsty invisible behemoth and wondering, if we survive, what will the New World look like; indeed.

  3. I spend a lot of my day in front of the computer too, it kind of links me to the outside world who are probably sitting in front of a computer too.
And dressed I am (most days) in my pyjamas as I have nowhere to go.
One day I will venture out again…
