Bigger Boat

“You’re gonna need a bigger boat.” [Jaws , 1985]

If you want to store all the stuff you wrote

While locked down with time to spare

All the poems you penned

When the world was unfair

And like the ark of the Bible old

It’s time the disembark or so I’m told

And just as the animals filled the land

Now our words can spread out – expand

We can share our labours face to face

WIth friends and loved ones

In public space

Poetics: “Go Ahead, Make My Day”

Woodland Wonder

Woodland wonder, no dark forbidding forest here

This a place of light and greenery, a playground for prancing deer

Quiet paths devoid of obstacles

Make my journey pleasant

As I take in all that surrounds

Like delicate leaves and golden pheasants

But alas I shall need return

To my abode enclosed

And await the coming again of such green scenes

When lockdown is deposed

Open All Hours

Open all hours come on in

As long as you have a mask on your chin

Nose and mouth covered too

Keep a metre’s distance if not two

Sanitise hands, wipe down your basket

We sincerely hope your visit’s fantastic

What’s that you want only to use the loo?

Sorry, but that requires flash wipes

And a purchase too

Itinerary

Here’s my busy lockdown itin – erarey

Sometime before noon – I’ll wake for some tea

I will stretch and I’ll yawn

And I put on the kettle

When it’s all brewed – then on the couch I’ll settle

That task completed I will check my email

Then check on the mat, if there is any snail

Then the kettle again

And back upstairs to my bed

And ponder the Netflix

Or watch YouTube instead

About three, some lunch is on the agenda

Not much – just a sandwich

Or smoothie from the blender

An afternoon shower is then to follow

And then more tea – I think I will swallow

After all of these harrowing chores

It’s time for a nap and accompanying snores

Once awake, it’ll be time for my dinner

I think an oven-baked pizza

Will be a sure winner

Now exhausted by all of my toil

I’ll put my last cuppa on to the boil

Another yawn and a stretch

My Jammies I’ll change

And head off to bed to start it over again

Why should we be pessimistic at twenty-twenty,

A year that started with Aussy wildfires

And now has debates full of vitriol playing on TV?

Don’t forget pandemics,

BLM, and global warming to name a few,

Has any of this – had an impact on you?

Many things that happened, these are examples are just some

Reasons to have an optimistic hope, of what will happen in twenty-one
